Optimization for Signal Processing and Communication (OSPAC) is a research group within
the ECE Department at
the University of Minnesota --
Twin Cities. At any point in time, OSPAC may consist of a number of visiting faculty
members/students, postdoctoral researchers and full-time graduate students. We study various
algorithmic, complexity and implementation issues in digital communication and signal processing.
We are especially interested in the mathematical theory, design and analysis of efficient
optimization algorithms that have strong motivations from real world applications. Our current
research is focused on several aspects of signal processing and wireless communication networks,
such as dynamic spectrum management, robust beamforming in multiuser MIMO systems, complexity
analysis and linear transceiver design for interference alignment, matrix completion,
compressed sensing, image recovery in MRI, and adaptive signal processing in hearing aids.
OSPAC has extensive and strong cooperation with many government agencies and industry partners.
Each year OSPAC students usually have opportunities to take summer internships in industrial
research labs. In recent years, the research in OSPAC has been supported by the National Science
Foundation (NSF), the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), the Army Research Office
(ARO), Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and the ADC Endowed Chair Fund. We strongly encourage
talented, hardworking and fun-loving students to join OSPAC.
With its highly stimulating and dynamic atmosphere, OSPAC is a great place to have a first-class education
and to launch your scientific career.
